Nexus Building and Welcome Center Construction Update

News, Announcement

July 3 2014 updateSteady progress has been made on the Nexus Building and Welcome Center including foundation site work and steel framing. The footprint of the building, along with the interior “bones”, are now visible those passing along on South Avenue.

At the end of July, we anticipate the arrival and installation of the parking garage ceiling materials.  The support beams for this phase of the project are pre-cast and run up to 80 feet long. To accommodate their delivery into the site, South Avenue will be closed weekdays to vehicular traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Below is the letter Dr. Scott shared with Garden City residents informing them to the closures.

Dear Neighbor,

As you may have read in the “Garden City News”, the ongoing construction of our Village-approved Nexus Building and Welcome Center will require the weekday closure of South Avenue between Brompton Road on the west end to Cherry Valley on the east end, from July 21, 2014 to August 28, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in order to accommodate the multiple deliveries of essential precast construction components. At no time will any section of South Avenue be closed to emergency response

We have coordinated with various Village offices to facilitate this aspect of the work in the safest and most expeditious manner, and regret the inconvenience it may pose to our neighbors. To keep the community updated, additional details will be posted on the Village website as we approach the closure

Thank you in advance for your understanding. We will write again to invite you to tour the new facility when it opens.
