Chef Lala

In celebration of World Food Day, Adelphi University’s Center for Health Innovation will host celebrity chef and motivational speaker, Chef LaLa on Tuesday, October 23, at 3:00 p.m. in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event is free and open to the public.

Chef LaLa is a classically trained chef, certified nutritionist and sought after spokeswoman. Internationally known for combining her love of Latin cuisine with the fight against weight-related issues, Chef LaLa will bring her live show to the Adelphi campus. She is a dynamic personality who has appeared on the Today Show, the Discovery Channel and Dr. Oz, to name a few, as well as Spanish-language programming around the world. Whether it is a public speaking event or a television show, Chef LaLa is an in-demand guest who reaches a variety of people on many different levels. She has authored a cookbook, Best Loved Mexican Cooking and Latin Lover Lite,and written a book on lifestyle and parenting, Yummy para tu Pancita. Most recently, she has brought healthy Mexican cooking to supermarket shelves across the U.S. with her new Chef LaLa Homemade line of all-natural, easy-to-use sauces and marinades and oils.  

Chef LaLa, having lost both grandmothers and a grandfather to diabetes, is determined to make life better and to stall or reverse the effects of the disease for people, like her father and seven uncles, who suffer from it.

Adelphi University’s Center for Health Innovation (CHI) is the primary resource in our region for innovative, multidisciplinary, evidence-based responses to improving healthcare, healthcare systems, and public health. It brings together many from professional and academic backgrounds to create and foster practitioner-focused, interdisciplinary academic programming, healthcare research, community partnerships, and leadership—all with the goal of meeting current and emergent healthcare needs.
