The Center for Health Innovation Poll

We focus on what matters to you.

We generate research and develop programs designed to provide the region with the knowledge and skills we need to be on the cutting edge of healthcare. In addition, we want to learn about how you are managing the most pressing issues as you work to create healthy lives for you and your families, so that we can provide services that matter.

The Adelphi University’s Center for Health Innovation poll provides a snapshot of how America is dealing with healthcare issues—from policy to practice.

Addiction and Treatment Trends Poll Summary (2014)

Addiction is a disease and addiction related-tragedies are ever increasing in this country. The nation’s growing use of opioids—a group of painkillers that includes prescribed drugs like Vicodin and OxyContin and illegal substances like heroin—has reached a national epidemic. Drug overdoses are poised to surpass traffic accidents as the leading cause of accidental death in 2014, according to the American College of Physicians. In 2011, about 110 Americans died each day from a drug overdose. Nationwide, heroin use has nearly doubled in the past five years, surging to nearly 670,000 users in 2012 from 373,000 in 2007, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Mental Health and Gun Violence Poll (2013)

In the wake of horrific mass killings, like December’s Newtown shooting, mental health professionals have weighed in on a vital national debate on ways to prevent and cope with deadly community disasters through the Adelphi University Center for Heath Innovation Poll released today. This poll was conducted among a random sample of 100 mental health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, LICSWs, LISWs and CSW-Cs and it focused on mental health and gun violence.

The Adelphi University Center for Health Innovation (CHI) Poll is a proprietary survey of Adelphi’s Center for Health Innovation. The latest survey focused on mental health issues and the results were released at the February 12, 2013 CHI Inaugural Symposium, “Assuring the Continuum of Care in Emergency Situations.” The results reflect the responses to an online survey of a national sample of 100 mental health professionals, defined as psychologists, psychiatrists, LICSWs, LISWs and CSW-Cs.

Disaster Preparedness Poll (2012)

In response to the severe weather that has impacted our region in the past two years, our first poll focused on how ready Americans are to deal with every day emergencies; snow storms, power outages, extreme thunderstorms. What we found out may surprise you; we hope it’s the first step in helping you and your family prepare for the future.
